Laurent-Perrier Garden
Incorporating innovative ideas and techniques, this garden is designed to portray the legacy of John Joseph Mechi, the Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist who pioneered new farming practices at Tiptree Hall in Essex. The garden celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, a charity Mechi founded, and 125 years of the production of preserves at Tiptree. The planting features varieties of fruit, now grown at Tiptree on the land that Mechi once farmed, mixed in with contemporary planting. Designer Ben Wincott has taken inspiration from imaginative growing
practices to design a garden that illustrates the pioneering spirit of
the 19th century in a modern setting.
